Wireless Week on January 1, 2004 published an article about moblogging with some interesting tidbits about moblogging companies textamerica and Buzznet.
Chris Hoar, the founder of textamerica, says his site receives more than 130,000 individual hits per day, with each person averaging 45 minutes looking at 75 pages. Chris says textamerica isn't interested in speaking to cellular operators about using his company's services because all the operators already have their strategies -- "outdated" -- in place.
Wireless Week's Karen Brown writes, "Now that its moblog platform has matured, textamerica is hoping to add a revenue stream by selling the service to commercial clients such as real estate agents. It also has plans to offer advertising-free or private moblogs with restricted access."
Buzznet's plans
Buzznet, another moblog hosting company, that like textamerica offers free moblogs, limits users to a maximum of ten postings per day. Buzznet is developing a paid service that will allow users to post more photos and also access "private" photo blogs, Brown writes.
Buzznet is talking to cellular operators about possible partnerships, although co-founder Anthony Batt says, "There is movement toward a business deal, but I think we're still sort of a month down the line."
Weblog company Blogger is beta testing mobloging in conjunction with Sprint PCS and other cellular operators.
Lots of work to do
Personally, I'm still waiting to see a detailed business plan from any start-up moblog company.
