OmniVision, a manufacturer of semiconductor image sensors is seeing a huge boost in revenues because of the booming market for camera phones, according to an article in the San Jose Business Journal.
In the article, Shaw Hong, the president and CEO of OmniVision, says, "In the January quarter, sales of CameraChips for mobile phones grew by more than 100 percent quarter to quarter, and the mobile phone sector emerged as our largest market."
This is one more illustration of what I've been writing: Camera phones are spawning significant opportunities for many different businesses. Companies that provide components for digital cameras are leveraging their expertise to provide components for camera phones.
