From picturephoning.com I learned from an article in Japan Today that 89.3 percent of cellular phones shipped in Japan had cameras.
Based on statistics from the Multimedia Research Institute, 44,730,000 camera phones were sold compared to a total of 50,090,000 million cellular phones shipped for the year ending March 31, 2004. Total sales represent a 22.3 percent increase in sales over last year.
The Institute notes the sales are typically phone replacements rather than purchased by new subscribers.
