South Korean handset manufacturers are expected to capture 30 percent of the world's camera phone market in 2004, according to an article today in The Korea Times. Three South Korean manufacturers aim to sell 57 million camera phones this year, a 23 percent increase.
Samsung Electronics wants to sell 33 million camera phones, LG Electronics is targeting 14 million and the Pantech Group is aiming at 10.5 million. LG Securities estimates that the three vendors sold 11.36 million camera phones in the first quarter of 2004 (see above).
Greg Roh, an analyst at LG Securities, says Samsung, LG and Pantech sold a total of 33 million cellular phones in the first quarter of 2004, an increase of more than 10 million from a year ago. He says camera phone sales comprised most of that increase, The Korea Times reports.
