Asia Optical ships one million-plus camera phone lenses in May

Sales of components for camera phones can be a good indication of the growth of the camera market in general. A brief article in DigiTimes reports that Asia Optical, the largest optical lens marker in Taiwan, has for the first time shipped more than one million lenses for camera phones.

The 1 million lenses were shipped in May and Asia Optical predicts that number will increase to 1.5 million lenses beginning in the third quarter, DigiTimes says.

The article notes that Largan Precision, the largest manufacturer of camera phone lenses in Taiwan, shipped two million lenses last month, a decrease from the three million it shipped in April.
