CVS/pharmacy and Nokia have just announced a marketing alliance to promote the camera phone business. The marketing strategy includes establishing a Web site to sell Nokia camera phones (see below) and promoting CVS' photo printing capabilities.
As I've written, CVS is installing Kodak Picture Maker printing kiosks in its stores. Camera phone users can upload photos to the kiosk via Bluetooth or infrared or insert the memory card from the camera phone into a slot in the kiosk.
The press release says CVS is "currently the only national retailer to offer consumers the ability to print photos from their camera phones, and was the first national retailer to offer chainwide in-store digital photo printing."
More promotions
Nokia and CVS are sponsoring an advertising campaign in print publications, including photo trade magazines. In addition, Nokia will provide camera phones at "many" CVS locations so customers can print test photos.
That's a smart move. Relatively few people in the United States have camera phones so offering potential camera phone purchasers a no-risk opportunity to test the features is a great idea....as long as the CVS personnel watch that none of the test handsets wander off the premises!
