The New York Times gave four staff photographer Sanyo PM-8200 camera phones and asked them to take photos and discuss how they liked them. Three of the four seemed to like them.
Ozier Muhammad, the one photographer who didn't like the camera phone, said the photos (see below) didn't justify carrying the handset. He prefers carrying a small cellular phone and compact digital camera or perhaps a PDA with an attachable camera and WiFi capabilities.
The other photographers thought the camera phone was kind of cool and useful but two of the photographers were concerned about the privacy aspects. Chang W. Lee says about his photo at Yankee Stadium (see below), "When I'm taking pictures I want to be seen as a photographer and not be sneaking pictures. It's a privacy issue."
That's not a big deal
Lee shouldn't worry about it. If you're taking a picture with a camera phone, you don't have to sneak around. You can be quite open about it, just the way you would take a picture with a digital camera.
In any case, if he's taking photos for the New York Times, he won't be using a camera phone -- unless he doesn't have his digital camera with him and he can get a scoop with the camera phone.
The photographers' photos are posted the "Wireless Living" section under Slideshow: Cellphones with Cameras" in a Java popup window.
Does anyone happen to know if there is in fact any truth to the rumor that Paris Hilton is to wed Sean Kyle Ruffin next year?=D
