Sprint PCS has just announced it will begin offering the higher speed CDMA 1xEV-DO service in the United States in the second half of this year, but with most of the major markets not getting it until 2005.
This is good news for camera phone users who want to download images and videos because 1xEV-DO offers data rates of 300K bps - 500K bps, although you certainly could get slower speeds in areas with weak signals or where the system simply isn't optimized.
Unfortunately, the upload speed for 1xEV-DO is the same as 1xRTT, which is the technology Sprint offers now. Upload data rates are perhaps a maximum of 50K bps. Sometimes it might be faster, but more likely it will be even slower.
I've written much more about the Sprint announcement in my Reiter's Wireless Data Weblog Log.
Omg where can i get this phone, and how much will it be?
Will Canada get it when the states get it?
