From Gizmodo I learned that Vodafone K.K. (Japan) in early August is releasing the same model of a Mitsubishi cellular phone it introduced in October 2003, but the new version doesn't have a camera.
The Vodafone press release says the new model "was developed to meet the needs of customers who work in environments such as factories and research laboratories, where camera phones are restricted for confidentiality reasons."
One article says this is the beginning of a camera phone backlash by corporations that don't want the devices used in their offices. The article notes, "It's not just about security either -- in businesses camera phones raise issues of increased costs due to picture messaging and create more work for IT departments as users struggle to transfer pictures between their phones and PCs."
