Nokia will incorporate Secure Digital (SD) card slots in many models of cellular phones beginning in the second half of next year, according to an article in ZDNet (http://c.moreover.com/click/here.pl?e201991124&e=1702).
Nokia has been offering only MultiMediaCard (MMC) slots but has decided to go with SD because of the format's popularity. MMC doesn't require a license fee and it uses a lower voltage.
Nokia says it will continue to offer MMC slots in phones where the price and/or battery life are especially important.
Nokia has applied for membership in the SD Card Association.
The more the merrier
The more memory card options for camera phone users, the better.
As more people purchase cellular phones, especially one megapixel and above, they will become increasingly angry at cellular operators that adopt the user-hostile attitude of making it difficult or impossible to transfer photos from the handset except by transmitting them over the cellular network.
