Mitsubishi Electronic in early November will begin shipping four megapixel, auto-focus CCD camera phone modules, according to an article in Telecoms Korea.
The module can accommodate 30 frames per second for video.
It's quite amazing how quickly the technology of camera phones is improving.
Yes, quality definitely has to improve although these are CCD at least and not the noisy CMOS sensors.
I heard that some of the original megapixel modules were designed for medical use to view inside stomachs! Mmm mmm!

Now all they have to do is to get the pictures to not look like crap. If you don't improve the optics or internal processing of the pictures, what's the point of multi-megapixel sensors?
I'm afraid that these multi megapixel sensors are mostly designed as cash cows to sell expensive data plans for phones that only allow pictures to be mailed to get them off the camers. The manufacturers obviously don't give a damn if the pictures look decent.
