Yesterday I wrote I haven't been posting as frequently as I'd like because I was working on a few new wireless publications. Here's one of them: The CTIA Wireless Internet Caucus (WIC) weblog (see below), the first weblog from the wireless association.
The association's weblog will include a lot of information about the activities of the WIC, the wireless data "arm" of the CTIA (although many people working for the association are involved in wireless data).
Issues affecting wireless data
Don't dismiss the WIC Weblog just because it's an association weblog, although it will be, well, more "conservative," [editorially, not politically!] than my "Camera Phone Report." Some important work -- that hasn't always been well publicized -- occurs at the WIC, such as developing guidelines for SMS and MMS interoperability in the United States.
For example, one of the association's Action Teams -- Mobile Content -- will be developing guidelines governing adult content transmitted to cellular phones. What should and shouldn't be viewed by people under 18 years old? This is a very sensitive topic, obviously.
These guidelines certainly certainly have a camera phone angle. After all, think of all the photos and videos that could be created, sent and received by camera phones.
Leave comments
I strongly recommended that the WIC start a weblog and I didn't have to do much persuading.
If you have an opinion about an article on the WIC Weblog, please leave a comment. The CTIA certainly affects the course of wireless -- voice and data -- in the U.S.
The WIC wants to hear from readers. I can guarantee those comments will be reviewed. "I'm Alan Reiter, and I approved this advertisement for the WIC Weblog." <g>
Another CTIA weblog
This afternoon the CTIA announced another weblog. Steve Largent, the president and CEO of the CTIA, will begin blogging during the association's Wireless 2005 conference beginning this Sunday in New Orleans.
I posted a brief article on the WIC Weblog. I expect to have more details in a few days. I am not involved with Largent's weblog.
