OP3, a Swedish and Dutch company that has been promoting barcodes and developing their "shot codes," issued a press release that discusses their work with a Lithuanian wireless software company, GetJar.
The release discusses how barcodes have increased software downloads.
Here's what the press release says:
"The Lithuanian company GetJar is an important player on the global downloading market with over 4 million downloads each month! But all the distributors are all facing the same challenge: Many of their costumers find it difficult and time-consuming to download.
"Only one of three persons is satisfied with their purchase. The easier the downloading gets, the more money will the distributors (and their partners) make.
"In order to increase the customer satisfaction, OP3 and GetJar decided to co-operate and decided to name a new ShotCode service, the GetJar OneShot Downloader....During less than a month the GetJar webpage had more than 8,000 downloads of the OneShot Downloader.
"Dennis Hettema, C.E.O. and founder of OP3 is quite pleased with the reviews the GetJar One Shot Downloader got so far. 'We have got a score of 7.57 out of 10, which is pretty good, yet there is always room for improvements,' he says.
"But the question is: Why should I bother to, or how can I, download the OneShot Downloader if I have problems downloading mobile content? 'I know it seems like a paradox. But you only have to download our software once. After that downloading is a child’s play, and very fast too,' declares Dennis Hettema.
"Once the first install is made, the only thing the mobile user has to do is point the phone’s camera at the ShotCode and click one time in order to get the associated content directly on her mobile.
"The next step in the co-operation between OP3 and GetJar will take place in February and that is the launching of the Java-based downloader. Some 50 mobile phone models will then be compatible, and according to Hettema that isn't even close to being enough....
"There is today a large discrepancy between the amount of software titles available on the market, and the amount of people actually downloading any software at all to their mobile phones. This can be seen as a potential that might make the market's development explosive in the coming years."
