From Gizmodo I see a Reuters story that says Canon will not develop any new film cameras and, instead, focus on digital cameras.
Canon will continue to manufacture and sell its existing film cameras and make a “final judgment” on that end of the business “in the future while monitoring demand,” Reuters says.
The article notes that Nikon previously said it would stop producing its film cameras except for a few models designed for professional photographers.
The digital future
Even though I’m something of a futurist who would much rather live on the Starship Enterprise than a traditional home, Canon’s announcement is sad.
I shoot with film cameras as well as digital cameras and, of course, camera phones.
I mostly use digital, but when I want beautiful landscapes, I use my very old Olympus SLR and Fuji Velvia film that is often superior to digital.
