From picturephoning.com I learned about the Mobile Assassins camera phone game where groups of people with camera phones are sent “targets” via SMS to “assassinate.”
Two smart women are creating the game that updates “killing” with camera phone photos rather than squirt guns or water balloons, as the home page says. They’re working hard to finish the game to demonstrate it in a couple of days during New York University’s ITP [Interactive Telecommunications Program] spring show 2006.
The game is designed for groups and team-building (see below).
How it works
According to the Mobile Assassins Web site:
1) Join a mobile assassins game by logging into mobileassassins.com.
2) Complete your profile by entering your name, phone number and mobile carrier.
2) You will recieve [sic] a confirmation text message asking you to take a camera photo of yourself and send it to hit@mobileassassins.com [Note: the Web site lists “2” twice.]
3) The game will begin
4) You will receive an MMS message containing a photo of your target
5) You will be sent an SMS game stat messages listing how many gamers have been assassinated every 30 mins.
6) Locate your target by any means possible.
7) Stealthily take a photo of his/her face frontwise. Send it to hit@mobileassassins.com
8) Your target will receive [sic] a message that they must confirm that they were hit. The game will be user/community monitored for now.
9) You will recieve [sic] an MMS with the photo of your most recent hit's target, who will be your new target
10) If someone tries to assassinate you, you may counter hit them first. Once he/she is eliminated, you will continue with your current target
11) The game is over when only one assassin is left or if game end-time has been reached
[Note: A friendly suggestion…check the spelling of “receive”; “i’’ before “e” except after “c” <g>.]
Camera phone fun and games
There have been a number of instances where camera phones are used in games, such as scavenger hunts and treasure hunts where camera phones also are used as barcode readers.
I think I’m going to start a new category for this weblog: Fun and Games.

Sorry about the spelling errors - we're much better at math than spelling!
Cheers! -
