Arwa Damon, a CNN correspondent, reports "It's a Bluetooth frenzy" as Iraqis transfer via Bluetooth the camera phone video that shows Saddam Hussein's hanging (see below), as I wrote yesterday.
The camera phone video shows Saddam dropping through the trapdoor and then hanging down with the noose around his neck. The official Iraqi video, as I wrote, ends after the noose is slipped around his head.
(The CNN Pipeline shot of the video on the Nokia phone looks like it's the official version, not the camera phone version, but I'm not positive. I posted links to both versions in my previous article.)
Seeking confirmation
Darwa reports that Iraqi officials were concerned the regime would appear too brutal if they showed the complete hanging. But because of the camera phone video -- that Darwa says was obviously shot in plain view of officials at the hanging -- the "uncensored" version of the execution is spreading like wildfire.
Damon interviews the owner of a mobile phone store in Saddar City, Iraq who says everyone -- including children -- is seeking information about and confirmation of Saddam's execution.
People were so afraid of Saddam and thought he'd never be executed that they need proof of his death. "It's like a thirst that can't be quenched," the mobile phone owner says.
USBs, CDs
The camera phone video also is being transferred via USB thumb drives. One man plans to distribute it on CDs or tape, Damon says.
