Women in the U.K. are asking sales people to take camera phone photos of themselves wearing lingerie so they can send the images -- plus information about their measurements -- to their boyfriends, husbands, whoever to show what they want for Christmas, according to an article in BrandRepublic.
The story is based on a press release issued by Virgin Mobile in the U.K. that terms the trend "knick pics" (as in "knickers"); see left. Simon Dornan, the head of consumer public relations for Virgin Mobile, says in the release, "Picture
messaging has changed the way we communicate as a nation, and it's
great to think that the 'Knick Pics' trend we have identified could
mean an end to unhappy women on Christmas Day morning.
"Outside of the lingerie departments, the phenomenon of people using their camera phone to aid the stress of Christmas shopping is something we predict will continue to grow."
Trend spotting
Another article about the subject in The Register says the trend was spotted by Virgin's "national network of trend spotters."
